Nauticinblu Europe Project in Faro – 2025

The environmental education program “Nauticinblu Europe” returns to Portugal!

The “NauticinBlu Europe” environmental education project, created by Marevivo with the long-term support of the MSC Foundation, first arrived in Portugal in 2024 in Almada, organised by the Portuguese NGO AIMM. The “NauticinBlu ITA-EU” Project already involves 20 Nautical Institutes in Italy and aims to expand in Europe, being present in addition to Portugal, also in Greece and Spain.

Marevivo’s partnership with the MSC Foundation and the commitment within the scope of the “NauticinBlu” Project aims to support young students of Generation Z with the necessary tools to be the true change agents of the future. Thousands of students in Italy and other nations have participated in environmental education activities at school and outdoors, which have focused on topics like protecting the oceans and seas, sustainability, and biodiversity conservation.

In 2025, AIMM was once again be the Portuguese partner to implement this project in the country, and the South was the chosen region. During the months of April and May, 144 students from Escola Básica Santo António and Escola Secundária João de Deus, in Faro, participated in days full of theoretical and practical activities.

Over the course of four days, students in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades of the two schools in the João de Deus School Group in Faro participated in a range of theoretical and practical activities. One of the practical activities most loved by all, was the field trip to observe dolphins, accompanied by AIMM researchers and in collaboration with the company Ocean Quest from Vilamoura.

Students participated in an educational peddy paper, in which they had to apply the knowledge acquired in the initial presentation of the project and during the experience in the sea, coordinating movements and knowledge in a collaborative way.

To conclude the project, they collectively painted a themed mural designed by the Algarvian street artist Seres, representing the ecosystems and marine species observed, thus leaving a visual and educational mark on their school about the importance of protecting the marine environment.

Marevivo’s educational exhibition “Only One: One Planet, One Ocean, One Health”, created in collaboration with the Italian Navy and the Fondazione Anton Dohrn in Naples – and illustrating key points of an effective ecological transition – will also be on display in the schools participating in the project.

On 4th of June, the day before World Environment Day, the final closing event of the project took place at João de Des Secondary School, with a presentation of the project and its results to the rest of the school community. There was also a moment to hand out certificates of participation to all students, and a special moment to present the prizes to the winning groups of the pedi paper – the winning group won a surfing lesson from our partners, the Future Eco Surf School.
