AIMM went on a trip in a sailing ship!
Santa Maria Manuela historic Portuguese ship has partnered with AIMM. Know more about the vessel here.
Our Research Voyage with Santa Maria Manuela came to an end this past Sunday.
We would like to express our gratitude to the SMM crew for inviting us to be part of this experience, and to all the guests on board for their enthusiasm and willingness to join Alicia in her work throughout the trip.

Our researcher and marine biologist, Alicia Quirin, spent the week spotting cetaceans and other wildlife, and the evenings giving lectures. Guests were welcome to participate at any time, and we were delighted to see how engaged everyone was!
Alicia sailed through 4500 m deep waters from Madeira to the Canary Islands. She observed species like Atlantic spotted dolphins (𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴), short-finned pilot whales (𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘳𝘩𝘺𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘴), and fin whales (𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘴).
